This presentation was interesting, because teachers had used technology to teach Conditional sentences, they used videos and exercises from the blog, they were very helpefull to the class. Teachers in their classroms have to used videos from tv shows as our teachers did with the bing bang theory, students will enjoy learning with their favorite tv show. Also they enphazises in the differences between  conditional sentences, it was very clear for me.

CLASSROOM TECHNIQUES FOR CONTEXTUALIZATION:  HOW TO MAKE “This is a pen”.  A pragmatically motivated utterance by Yoshinori Sasaki.

Dear Ms. Linares and class:

Pragmatic motivation behind a question makes effective active communication in classroom, this consists in apply techniques that have been developed to contextualize expressions like: Is that a pencil? No, it isn’t. It is a pen.  So providing the situation they make pragmatic sense. Some techniques are:   -Abstract arts.

Use a disguise.

Reduce available perceptual information.

Introduce a change of state.

Take advantage of cultural knowledge gaps.

These contexts can provide a realistic communication.

GRAMMAR CORRECTION IN THE ESL/EFL WRITING CLASSES NOT BE EFFECTIVE by Ronald Gray

Dear Ms. Linares and class:

This is an interesting article!  It is a good topic to discuss. I really like it!!!!, because most of the teachers have this conflict: “To do  or not to do  corrections  in writings all the time”. Sometimes is difficult to make some corrections at the moment when they are presenting their homework, because some errors are violations of a grammatical rule. So teachers need more time correcting them, explaining  or trying that  students remember patterns to follow,  and possibly teachers know that students are not in the level to understand the explanation in that moment. This topic gives a good solution to the problem instead of making constants grammatical corrections in their writings and that students will be repeating over and over.

Gray (2000) recommends that it is a good idea to take a moment at the beginning of the class to explain the errors that our students are making and combine error separation technique. So we can help the students to improve and save time. Another recommendation is read “light” authentic reading (graphic novels, comics, the easy section of newspapers, popular literature) in the target language.

Thanks,

DOING THINGS WITH SENTENCES IN THE GRAMMAR CLASSROOM by Simon Mumford

Hello Ms. Linares and class:

This article is about how to play with sentences whiles students are learning and practicing positions of words. There are different games that we can use with our students and they will practice patterns that the sentences follow:

Hunt the main verb, Swapping words around, All those in favour, Minefield, Words that go together, Begin in the middle, Mind reading students, Threes

It will be a good idea to practice those games in holidays.

Thanks,

Ruth Galvez

Dear Miss Aleyda and Classmates.

according to Catherine Y. kinoshita, Language learning strategies are used in order to help the FSL/EFL students to develop in a better way the four basic  language skills which are, reading, writing, speaking and listening. They should be integrated into regular language lessons.

One important aspect to teach language learning strategies is that  students will be aware of which strategy fits the best in a certain task, also learners become active participants of they own learning. In fact language learning strategies can be trained to the students, in other words is teachable so the learner in determine way will put in practice  the one that fits the best in a determine task.

There are two approaches in order to teach learning strategy instruction. The first one is teach the learners through different materials and activities but without tell the them what is the name or the purpose so the students have to infer. The second one  informs  learners of the value and purpose of learning strategies and help them to use the learning strategies.

teachers must be aware of how to teach these strategies, make clear when and why to use it.

Have a nice day!

Darling Moncada
